Just over a century ago, there were more than 200,000 wild lions living in Africa. Today, there are only about 20,000.
That’s why I’m proud to be part of the @NewBig5project’s campaign to raise money for big cat charity Panthera’s vital work to save Africa’s lions.
Lions have undergone a catastrophic decline and are on the brink of extinction in all but the largest and best managed national parks. They’re already extinct in 26 African countries and have vanished from over 95 per cent of their historic range.
Panthera’s Project Leonardo is working to ensure the long-term survival of lions across Africa by increasing the total lion population by 50 per cent over the next 15 years to at least 30,000 lions.
